STATE FARM® YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD GRANTS $1.68 MILLION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Bloomington, Ill., Aug. 22, 2011– Projects aimed at alternative energy, conservation and outdoor learning centers were awarded grants from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board.

Service-learning based, youth-led projects focused on environmental issues across the United States and Canada were awarded $1,681,183. The projects are part of a $5 million allocation the State Farm Youth Advisory Board administers on behalf of State Farm.

The Board recognized that all environmental matters are ultimately interconnected; they encouraged projects that increased awareness, created a plan of action and addressed the social action necessary to engage students in support of the environment.

Environmental Responsibility is one of five issues eligible for funding requests, includingdriver safety, disaster preparedness, access to higher education/closing the achievement gap and financial literacy. The winning grants clearly outline how youth, through service-learning, can make positive change in their communities.
