The National Service-Learning Partnership (NSLP) was founded in 2001. It is a national network of members dedicated to advancing service-learning as a core part of every young person’s education. Service-learning is a teaching method that engages young people in solving problems within their schools and communities as part of their academic studies taking the students from passive recipients to active participants in their education and community.
For more than two decades, the National Youth Leadership Council™ (NYLC) has focused on building vital communities with young people through service-learning. As a national service-learning organization, NYLC is a leader in linking youth, educators, and communities in redefining the role of young people in society. It empowers young people to transform themselves from passive recipients of information and resources into valuable, contributing members of a democracy.
Youth Service America (YSA) was founded in 1986 with the mission to strengthen the effectiveness, sustainability, and scale of the youth service and service-learning fields. YSA envisions a powerful network of organizations committed to making service and service-learning the common expectation and experience of all young people in America.
NCLC identifies policies that support service, service-learning and volunteer efforts, and provides strategies for members to learn how to work closely with state and local policymakers to develop strong service-learning policies at all levels. It organizes national, statewide and local meetings to share information about effective service-learning and use of school volunteers. These forums provide participants an opportunity to highlight service-learning and volunteer programs, showcase student success in service-learning and discuss challenges they face in providing high-quality education linked to community service for K-12 students. It also provides information about service-learning and citizenship education through publications and on the Web site and technical assistance to member school districts and states. |
