The Long Beach Island Consolidated School District (LBICSD) will start an in-school food waste composting program for grades K-6. Composting concepts will be integrated into all curriculum content areas and community extensions will be created.
CCC provides a partial solution to an issue of great concern in our community. The Ocean County Landfill is filling up quickly and is anticipated to close within ten years. Composting provides a way of not only reducing the amount of waste that needs to be disposed of, but also of converting it into a product that is useful for nurturing our gardens. As compost eliminates the need for fertilizers, it also addresses the island-wide problem of stormwater runoff as nutrients run down storm drains directly into bordering bay waters.

Check Presentation Ceremony - October 11, 2011

Rocket is due to land at the Long Beach Island Consolidated School District soon.
Check back with us often to see the ribbon cutting for the installation of our new Rocket Composter.
Composting will reduce the amount of waste that we need to haul away to a landfill and thus reduces the cost of such waste removal. In addition, it also reduces the cost of expensive school landscaping and will provide nutrients to our schools' gardens.
