LEO club will focus on the three prong ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ approach on a school- and community- wide campaign, which incorporates school district facilities, shared community areas, and homes.
Our campaign specifically focuses on Environmental Responsibility - Recycling, Reducing, and Reusing materials. Louisburg does not have an organized plastic recycling collection in our rural town of 3400; our total school district student enrollment is 1708 - and the only recycling done district-wide thus far is paper recycling. Our project will expand our school and community recycling efforts to plastic and aluminum, and incorporate composting in both the schools and the community. Throughout this project, LEO club will be working with FFA, environmental science, horticulture, culinary arts and art classes in the community education of recycling, composting, and proper tree planting.

America Recycles Day - Nov. 15
In cooperation with L&K services, their new recycling truck made the rounds with LEO members to the two elementary schools and Louisburg Middle School. The three schools competed to see who would collect the most recyclables. Broadmoor Elementary collected aluminum cans, Rockville Elementary collected paper products, and LMS collected plastic bottles. It was determined that RES collected the most! Way to go, Kindergarten, first, and second graders!
Spring E-vent This is our "tent event", which will hosts educational booths, giveaways...
March 31 is our E day for our E vent. We are negotiating the use of our local Orschlen's farm and ranch supply store's parking lot, due to high visibility location and available space for both our tents/booths and parking. MORE TO COME on this exciting E-vent!
Presentation to school board; Bin and chipper deliveries
We presented information to the USD416 school board updating them on the grant's progress. Locations for school garden and compost bins were discussed in case we needed board approval. Informed board of March 31 E-Vent date.
We've experienced significant delays with the wood chipper we purchased in November. The chipper was delivered last week (January 12). We will reschedule chipping but the company's delay with shipping it certainly put us behind.
Our recycling bins are FINALLY being delivered this week! The company we ordered them from were delayed because they were waiting on the special panetone paint color (which took four weeks to get from the manufacturer). More to come!
